A 49-year-old Orlando pastor and Disney employee has been detained for solicitation of minors and possession of child pornography. He was suspected of sex crimes after Disney became aware he was allegedly trying to access blocked child pornography sites on his company computer.
Investigators also say his work computer had pornographic videos and there was semen present in his office. He’d also written two sermons based on John 13 and Psalm 148. In addition, he is alleged to have solicited young girls’ videos on YouTube by telling them they were cute, sexy and should send him a private video. The suspect has been released on bond under the condition that the only minors he has contact with are his two sons.
In Florida, child pornography is defined as any image that depicts a minor engaged in sexual conduct. Sexual conduct includes actual or simulated intercourse, actual contact with genitals, either clothed or unclothed, the pubic area or buttocks. It is a third degree felony to distribute, possess, transmit or produce child pornography in Florida. A conviction could result in up to 15 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Some offenders are also required to be included in the Sex Offender Database.
Sex crimes involving children are a serious matter. There is the potential for long prison sentences, high fines and inclusion on a sex offender list. An individual who is charge with such crimes may wish to allow a criminal defense attorney to review the charges. It may be possible to negotiate a plea to a lesser charge and reduce prison time and fines.
